Kalamata is your gateway to the region and a destination in itself. It is a modern city with a deep history, set in a spectacular location at the foot of the Taygetus mountain range, anchoring the Bay of Messinia with several kilometers of beach front.  It has modern shops, a marina and a wide variety of places to eat ranging from local tavernas to high class restaurants.

There are direct flights to Kalamata from UK and European airports from March to October and during off season the journey from Athens is a direct 3-hour motorway journey south, passing through incredible scenery.

The Messinian region has a diverse landscape that includes wetland lagoons, white sand beaches, mountains valleys and fertile plains abundant in citrus and olive groves. Its coastline varies from the long sand beaches of the Ionian coast, windswept and bounded by undulating dunes, to the clear water coves of the Mani, full of color and life.

It’s a place of extraordinary beauty and deep history, abundant in nature and it’s harvest in all forms. Typically, wholesome fare from the region includes the world-famous Kalamata Olive variety, pure wild honey, fresh mountain herbs, lemons, oranges, walnuts, figs and of course fresh fish, expertly grilled as only Greeks know how.

In the landscape, enduring monuments to the incredible history of the region stand proudly and call us back through the ages from the time of the Iliad, through the classical Greek, Roman and Byzantine eras, the centuries of rivalry between Venice and the Ottomans and then to the birth of the modern Greek Nation.
